Justice-Based Leadership Series

Registration has passed for this program

The Justice-Based Leadership Series, presented by ACT, ISA, and LEAD, aim to support student leaders' ongoing commitment to justice in their communities. The series will be facilitated by experienced community engagement scholars and organizers from Break Away- a national organization committed to creating a society of active citizens.

Each two-hour session will take place via Zoom and be highly engaging and thought-provoking. You can sign up for one, two, or three of the sessions via Engage. Registration is open until Oct. 19th at 11:59pm.

Leading The Frontlines | Monday, 10.26 | 3-5PM

In the current movement for Black lives and in many other justice-based movements, youth are taking roles as leaders and movement makers. This workshop will help participants understand various roles in leadership while considering their own identity through self-awareness practices. Participants leave with tools and resources for leading on the frontlines of justice movements.

Cultivating Active Antiracism | Tuesday, 10.27 | 3-5PM

Sparked by the racial uprising of 2020, and informed by the deep history of white supremacy in the United States, this workshop traces oppression through the evolution of the criminal justice system—from slavery to Jim Crow laws to the modern-day Prison Industrial Complex. Participants will explore this history and craft a framework for antiracist action.

Coalition Building | Wednesday, 10.28 | 3-5PM

Coalitions are formed by differing types of organizations to address an agreed upon issue. These are often complicated and messy, but they also have the power to define a movement. In this workshop, we utilize an asset-based framework to explore the process of designing and managing coalitions to enhance community building. Participants will turn ideas into actions that aid in the creation and coordination of sustainable coalitions.
